Thirteen years living here...
Countless repairs and fixes:
- New windows and door
- New roof
- New garage door
- New deck
- New patio cover
- New exterior paint
- Sprinkler system
- Water softener
- Reverse Osmosis
- Oh, and needless to say, two kitchen faucet replacements, one bathroom faucet/shower head replacement, one A/C compressor repair, one new thermostat, light bulb replacements...
All those "beating around the bush" repairs and updates were just delaying the unavoidable?
"You are fixing the house, again!?" That's what my friends said.
Why not sell it? In this economy? C'mon! Plus, who would give up a view like this:
So, we set out to do the unthinkable - to completely redo the interior of the house! That means a completely new kitchen, i.e., new cabinets, new counter-top, new cook-top, new sink and faucet, new refrigerator, new oven, new lighting, new flooring, new paint (remember the wallpaper?).
Here's a picture to show you how desperate the kitchen looks:
Wait, it's just the kitchen. What about the bathrooms? Yes, completely redo. Bedrooms? Yes! Living room? Yes! Dining room? Yes!
We will walk through the steps that we go along with. I can tell you this, it's a lot more than we thought.

Coming up, we will share our experience in finding a contractor that will help us along the big undertaking - the most important decision of the project...

Looking forward to the updates!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks a lot better than mine!!! We have been thinking about remodeling our house for a long time. However the thought of the snowball effect - "well, if we fix this we might as well fix that..", having to make the numerous decisions big and small, dealing with contractors, the dust, the chaos, packing and unpacking....Ugh. So, up until now, it's still all talk and no action even as the house slowly deteriates around us. Maybe this year we will get serious. Love to read more about your experience.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Randomthoughts! It seemed that you've given some serious thoughts to the remodel and just need the time and the courage to do it.
ReplyDeleteMy initial intention of having this blog was exactly to smooth out some of the anxiety associated with the big undertaking.
I'm working on the next post and it will come to meet you soon!
